For the second straight year, TELUS Corporation captured top honours at the Corporate Reporting Awards presented by the Chartered Accountants of Canada.

The winners of the Corporate Reporting Awards
The awards program has recognized excellence in financial and corporate reporting in Canada for more than 50 years. The awards are presented annually by the Chartered Accountants of Canada and reflect the profession’s commitment to enhancing the quality of financial reporting.
In addition to capturing the Overall Award of Excellence, TELUS garnered the Excellence in Financial Reporting Award and an Award of Excellence for the Communications and Media sector. The company also collected Honourable Mentions in Sustainable Development Reporting and Corporate Governance Disclosure.
“Congratulations to TELUS for what is a strong and consistent performance in terms of corporate reporting,” said Kevin Dancey, FCA, President and CEO, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. “Users of corporate reports appreciate such consistency.”
“It is a real honour to be recognized by the Chartered Accountants of Canada for our corporate reporting,” said Robert McFarlane, TELUS Executive Vice President and CFO. “TELUS is firmly committed to providing full and fair financial disclosure for the benefit of our investors and many stakeholders. We take a proactive best-in-class approach to corporate reporting, governance and sustainability, often going well above and beyond what is required as we strive to improve each year.”
PotashCorp and Nexen Inc. were the other multiple winners. PotashCorp captured three awards while Nexen collected two. In total, 21 awards and honourable mentions were handed out at the luncheon ceremony. This also marked the second year that the program featured award categories for large and small Crown corporations.
“It is important that we acknowledge excellent examples of corporate reporting, especially in these unsettled times,” said Dancey. “We salute all the entrants. It is encouraging to see so many entities dedicated to providing corporate reports that are relevant, clear and easily understood. All of the entrants are dedicated to continuous improvement and raising the bar each year for even better reporting.”
Winning companies and Crown corporations are profiled in the Book of Judges’ Comments for the 2008 Corporate Reporting Awards. The book is available at www.cica.ca/cra.
