A December is the best time to set your objectives for the coming year. Here are a few steps you can take to achieve your goals and avoid abandoning your New Year’s resolutions by mid-February: First, look within. Does your goal make you happy? If the answer is anything but yes, don’t waste your time. You have to really want something in order to achieve it. Write it down. Dreams remain fantasies, never to be realized. Writing down your goals, the steps necessary to reach them and a deadline makes your mission real and definite. Besides, we CAs love getting stuff in writing. Forget failure. You can combat the fear of failure with proper planning, a positive attitude and confidence in your strengths and abilities. By developing an action plan, committing to it, staying focused and building on your progress (regardless of whether you make huge leaps or baby steps), you greatly reduce your risk of failure. Conquer change. The only certainty in life is change. Stop obsessing over stability and security because both are illusions. Focus on self-development and continuous learning, as the knowledge and experience you gain will be extremely useful when faced with change. Share. Nobody likes a sore winner. Once you complete your project, give back to your colleagues. Give them the tools needed for them to successfully achieve their objectives through mentoring, financing or introducing them to your network of friends.
