Going concern

Marc Belaiche,
President
Torontojobs.ca

Company profile: In April 2005, with recruiting, auditing and accounting experience under his belt, Marc Belaiche acquired and incorporated TorontoJobs.ca, an online recruitment and staffing company. At that time, he was the sole proprietor of the enterprise, which had been in operation for three years. Now the company covers all industries and has a staff of 13 working to connect employers with full-time and part-time job seekers in the greater Toronto area. Last year, annual gross revenue jumped 600% to $300,000.

Hot factor: The online job bank, which includes a career resource centre, gets about 4.5 million hits a month and has close to 30,000 résumés in the database, up from 600,000 hits a month and 3,000 résumés in April, 2005. It’s the only company that offers three divisions to help job seekers: a recruitment site where companies canpost jobs or search résumés by various search criteria, such as location or salary; Toronto Jobs Newspaper, which is distributed monthly to more than 300 locations in the GTA, including employment centres, job finders clubs and jobfairs; and TorontoJobs.ca Recruitment to locate temporary, contract or permanent staff.

Cool projects: TorontoJobs.ca will have a booth at both The National Job Fair & Training Expo on April 3 and 4 and at the New Canadians Job Fair on April 23. Both events will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

In his own words: “The recruitment industry has changed tremendously. For a minimal cost, companies can now search a database of thousands of résumés by keyword, salary and location that only recruiting firms were able to do in the past. I see the recruiting industry continuing to go through changes similar to people doing their own banking online.”
