PotashCorp comes out on top

It was a big day, once again, for Saskatoon’s PotashCorp when the CICA Corporate Reporting
Awards for 2006 were presented on December 7 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
The program, initiated in 1951, is designed to showcase and reward outstanding financial and corporate
reporting. Most eligible Canadian companies have a market capitalization of over $200 million and are in the
top 50 TSX-listed companies.
Earning top spot in all four award categories gave PotashCorp the Overall Award of Excellence for Corporate
Reporting. It was the third consecutive year the world’s largest fertilizer enterprise, by capacity, ranked
best for financial reporting, corporate governance disclosure, electronic disclosure and sustainable
development reporting. PotashCorp also stepped up for Awards of Excellence for the mining industry and for
electronic disclosure (across all industry sectors). Plus, it received three honourable mentions.
The judging groups were made of the CICA, Toronto CFA Society (formerly Toronto Society of Financial
Analysts Inc.), Canadian Investor Relations Institute, and International Institute for Sustain-able
Development.
This year, the program will include Crown corporations, awarding the Auditor General of Canada’s Award for
Excellence in Annual Reporting by Crown Corporations to the highest achiever.
“Crown corporations add billions to the Canadian economy,” says CICA’s president and CEO, Kevin Dancey,
FCA. “Like private investors, the public deserves the highest level of accountability and transparency. With
the expansion of the Corporate Reporting Awards, Crown corporations will be judged for the first time
alongside private sector enterprises. This builds upon the CICA’s mandate to protect the public and increase
the efficiency of Canada’s capital markets by developing guidelines that enhance corporate reporting
processes.”
