Staff surveys provide insight

Have you been surveyed in your workplace recently? According toHR Solutions Inc., more than two-thirds of US companies regularly solicit staff opinions on many topics. “We do it every May,” says CA Diana Chan, development consultant and flexibility leader based at Ernst & Young’s office in Vancouver. “The survey is one of the things our leaders are committed to. A lot of partners say, ‘don’t just give me the data, tell me what I need to do with it.’” Chan spends time poring over outcomes with staff, including partners, managers and senior staff accountants at the firm’s offices across the country.

Last year, 77% of 3,600 staff members polled responded to the 43 online questions and 50%of those acted on a new option of suggesting changes. The top two topics of interest were work/life balance flexibility and career development.
