Loughrey receives Order of Canada

Former CICA chair Carol Loughrey recently became an Officer of the Order of Canada, receiving the country’s highest honour for life-time achievement.

A champion of women’s issues, Loughrey was the first woman comptroller of a provincial government and the first woman chair of the CICA (1994-’95). During her term, the Fredericton FCA led the development of national policies and practices to promote diversity and equity in the profession. Loughrey, who is also a breast cancer survivor, co-founded local, provincial and national advocacy and support groups to assist women living with cancer.

Established in 1967, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement and service in various fields of human endeavour. Appointments are made on the recommendation of an advisory council chaired by the chief justice of Canada.
